The collection is in eight series and contains the following: (I) personal, legal, and political papers; (II) Porter, Tousey, and Brown family papers; (III) papers Porter collected for his history of Indiana, including those of Benjamin Parke, John Dumont, Charles Dewey, and Samuel Merrill; and papers concerning the early histories of Vincennes and Indiana; (IV) miscellaneous papers from the Vincennes Historical Society and its head, W.H.H. Terrell; printed programs and paper money; (V) oversized items including early Indiana and Vincennes papers, and land grants from Indiana, Iowa, and Kansas; (VI) six photographs of Porter, his home, and children; (VII) transcripts of most of the collection, 1773-1934; (VIII) printed items removed from the collection; all but broadsides cataloged separately.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt was born on January 30, 1882, in Hyde Park, New York. He was the son of James (lawyer, financier) and Sara (Delano) Roosevelt.
